US President Donald Trump announced on Thursday, July 30, 2026, that his "Board of Peace" has reached an agreement for the complete disarmament of Palestinian Hamas militants and other armed groups in Gaza. Trump described this as a "major milestone in the implementation of the Trump 20-Point Plan" to end the conflict in Gaza.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump stated, "This agreement is a critical step towards Gaza finally being governed by a new Palestinian government that will work closely with the Board of Peace to help the Palestinian people. At the same time, Israel will have the security it deserves, with Gaza no longer used as a base for terror attacks."

Trump said the disarmament would be carried out in phases, with Israeli forces withdrawing as disarmament proceeds. An International Stabilisation Force would then work alongside a new Palestinian police force to secure the enclave. He added that Israel would withdraw from Gaza "as disarmament is completed."

Hamas has not officially commented on the announcement, though Al Jazeera has obtained a copy of the agreement document involving Hamas and other Palestinian factions. Hamas had previously announced on July 6 the dissolution of the governing body it led in Gaza for nearly two decades.

The disarmament plan is part of a ceasefire deal brokered by Trump in October 2025 to end Israel’s war on Gaza, which has resulted in over 73,000 Palestinian deaths, including more than 21,000 children, according to Gaza's Hamas-run health ministry.

Earlier on July 30, sources reported rare progress in talks between mediators and Hamas leaders in Cairo on implementing the US-brokered peace plan, though an Israeli official expressed dissatisfaction with the proposed terms. Cairo is set to host a mediator meeting on the second phase of the ceasefire plan.

Meanwhile, Israeli strikes on July 30 killed at least six Palestinians in Gaza, including two children, medics reported.
