Leo Feler, a Chicago homeowner and U.S. citizen, has filed a federal lawsuit against Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents following a warrantless raid on his property last October. According to the lawsuit filed by the Institute for Justice (IJ), a public interest law firm, the incident occurred during the Department of Homeland Security's (DHS) Operation Midway Blitz.

Feler had hired a reputable contractor to replace windows and siding on his three-unit residential building on Chicago's north side. On October 24, 2025, while four construction workers were eating lunch outside his home, two unmarked vehicles arrived abruptly. Masked, heavily armed CBP agents jumped over the gates, yelling, "Whose fucking house is this?" and pursued the workers onto Feler's property without a warrant.

The agents attempted to break through the locked front gate, then scaled a nearly six-foot fence to enter the property. They chased the workers into the enclosed backyard, private garage, and even climbed onto Feler's private balcony in an attempt to detain one of them. Feler witnessed the raid through his home security system and repeatedly demanded the agents to identify themselves.

After the agents left, Feler found significant damage to his fences, air-conditioning unit, and front gate lock, as well as trampled construction supplies and puddles of blood inside the home from an injured worker. Feler stated in a video published by IJ, "I didn't know their immigration status, and I didn't ask."

His attorney argues that Feler's Fourth Amendment rights were violated regardless of the workers' immigration status. The lawsuit highlights concerns about rights violations following the Supreme Court's recent approval of DHS's use of racial profiling for investigatory stops.
