Police in Hong Kong have decided not to press charges against basketball coach Yung Kam-wah, who was filmed slapping a secondary school student two years ago. The incident occurred at Hon Wah College in Siu Sai Wan, where Yung was suspected of common assault for physically punishing the student.

Yung was arrested in June 2026, but following an in-depth investigation, police found insufficient evidence to prosecute. In a reply to the South China Morning Post on Friday, July 31, 2026, authorities stated, “Following an in-depth investigation, police have found insufficient evidence to institute prosecution against anyone and have notified the relevant parties of the investigation results.”

The footage that sparked public concern showed Yung taking a jacket from the student’s hand and throwing it to the ground. He then grabbed the student’s left hand and slapped the boy’s left cheek three times in quick succession. After a brief pause, Yung struck the student’s cheek three more times with his own left hand, visibly moving the boy’s hair. Yung apologized after the clip went viral.
