A super typhoon named after Hong Kong’s Chinese white dolphins is forecasted to bring very hot weather to Hong Kong in the latter part of next week, according to the Observatory.

Kong Yu-chau, a senior scientific officer with the Observatory, stated on Friday, July 31, 2026, that Super Typhoon Dolphin is currently located over the western North Pacific and is expected to move towards the waters south of Japan in the coming days. However, its exact future path remains uncertain.

“We expect it will have a higher chance of moving towards the vicinity of the East China Sea,” Kong said. He added that under the influence of Dolphin’s outer subsiding airstream, very hot weather is anticipated over the coast of southeastern China later next week.

Kong also noted that it is too early to determine whether the typhoon will cause rainstorms in Hong Kong due to the uncertainty surrounding its trajectory.
