NBA player Terry Rozier faces charges related to allegedly taking himself out of a game while playing for the Charlotte Hornets to benefit friends who placed bets on his "under" propositions. However, Rozier's attorney, David Markus, has filed a motion to dismiss two charges against him.

In the motion, Markus points to a text message sent by Rozier's friend and co-defendant, Deniro Laster, which indicates Rozier was unaware of any bets and did not agree to any fix. The text, dated March 29, was sent six days after Rozier played only nine minutes and left the game due to an apparent injury. Laster allegedly wrote, "Don't tell chum bout the bet," with "chum" being Rozier's nickname.

Markus argued in the filing, "One does not hide a bet from the person who supposedly sold it," suggesting this evidence should end the case. According to the indictment, neither Hornets officials nor betting companies were aware of Rozier's alleged plan, and Rozier was not listed on the team's injury report.

Rozier, who currently plays for the Miami Heat, appeared at Brooklyn federal court in New York on April 27, 2026. The case remains under scrutiny as prosecutors have not accepted the defense's motion.
