President Donald Trump announced on Friday, July 31st, 2026, that Israel is pleased with the Board of Peace’s agreement with Hamas to disarm the militant group in Gaza, despite some skepticism about the framework.

Speaking at his Cabinet meeting at Camp David, Trump said, “We do have an understanding with Israel. Israel is very happy about it.” He acknowledged the complexity of the situation, noting, “Most people said that would be a deal that would be undoable. Will it go through its ups and downs? It’s a very complex situation over there.”

Trump described the agreement as a “big step for the Middle East,” adding, “Nobody ever thought that would be possible to disarm Hamas. People are really impressed by it and they’re really surprised by it.”

Hamas has indicated it will agree to disarm provided Israel halts strikes and withdraws from Gaza. However, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office has not publicly responded to the agreement.

A U.S. official expressed skepticism on Thursday, July 30th, about Hamas’s commitment to follow through with the deal, emphasizing that this is not a trust-based agreement and that all parties must adhere to their obligations as events unfold.

Trump also stated that Israel strongly supports the complete disarmament of Hamas.
