Several major stress tests involving more than 10,000 people, including Hong Kong civil servants, will be conducted at the newly revamped Huanggang Port border crossing. These tests are part of over 100 exercises planned in the coming months to ensure the checkpoint operates smoothly and safely, Hong Kong’s Secretary for Security Chris Tang Ping-keung revealed on Saturday, August 1st, 2026.

During a press and lawmaker tour of the new facility located in Shenzhen’s Futian district, Tang explained that the exercises would include individual and cross-departmental tests across Hong Kong’s government, with participation from mainland Chinese counterparts. The range of tests will cover operational trials, transport tests, and anti-terrorism exercises.

Tang stated, “We will conduct a few large-scale joint exercises with the Shenzhen side, involving at least 10,000 people … Once it’s completed, we will consider the official opening date.” However, he stopped short of committing to an official opening date.
