Early on Saturday, August 1st, Russian ballistic missile strikes targeted Ukraine's capital Kyiv, killing at least nine people and injuring at least 23 others, according to Ukraine's State Emergency Service and local officials.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported that the city came under a ballistic missile attack, with more than 10 explosions heard across the city. Fires broke out in several districts, including burning warehouses in Darnytskyi and debris falling on buildings in Holosiivskyi. Power outages were also reported in some areas.

Klitschko said a residential building in the Shevchenkivskyi district was partially destroyed, trapping residents inside. The emergency services confirmed that at least seven people were killed in a strike in Darnytskyi district. In Solomyanskyi district, two people died and eight were injured, including two children, when a five-storey residential building was partially destroyed.

The attacks come two days after a suspected Russian cruise missile landed in Poland during a widespread assault on Ukraine that killed at least eight people, including six members of one family near Kryvyih Rih.

Moscow has recently escalated deadly ballistic missile attacks on Kyiv, prompting Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to call for urgent delivery of interceptors.

All 15 injured people in the latest strikes, including two boys aged 13 and 17, were hospitalized, with one reported in serious condition. Residents remain trapped in damaged buildings in Shevchenkivskyi and Solomyanskyi districts.

On the diplomatic front, US President Donald Trump stated on Friday that talks were ongoing regarding military support to Ukraine but emphasized caution about allowing others to build certain weapons, despite earlier indications of approval.
