A small tourist plane crashed on Saturday, August 1st, 2026, while flying over the Nazca Lines archaeological site in southern Peru, killing all 13 people on board.

The crash occurred around 13:00 local time (19:00 BST) in the Pueblo Viejo region after the plane departed from an airport in Pisco, Peru. The aircraft belonged to the local Peruvian airline Aerodiana.

Police Major Jorge Andrade, speaking to AFP, confirmed that four bodies have been recovered so far and emphasized that there are no survivors due to the severity of the accident.

The Nazca Lines are a UNESCO World Heritage site known for ancient desert sand drawings and are a popular tourist attraction.

In a statement posted online in Spanish by the Municipalidad Provincial de Nasca, officials expressed "deep sorrow" for the accident and extended "heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased."

This is not the first fatal crash in the area; in 2022, a small tourist plane crashed over the Nazca Lines, killing seven people, and in 2010, another crash killed six.

The cause of the latest crash and the identities of the passengers have not yet been disclosed.
