A senior House Democrat, Rep. Tom Suozzi of New York, is urging the Democratic Party to actively confront the growing influence of the socialist wing within the party. Suozzi compared the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) to the House Freedom Caucus, a conservative faction within the GOP, stating, "Much like the Republicans have had to deal with the Freedom Caucus, the Democrats are going to have to deal with this group."

Suozzi expressed strong opposition to the DSA's use of the word "democratic" in their name, saying, "I don't like the idea of them using 'democratic.' I think that we should be, as the Democratic Party, fighting against that and saying, 'You know, you shouldn't be using the word democratic ... that's us, that's not you.'"

He emphasized his rejection of socialist ideas, stating, "I don't ascribe to any of those ideas at all, and I think that there's very little support for those ideas." Suozzi also highlighted economic concerns, attributing rising costs such as grocery prices, fuel, health insurance, and energy bills to the current administration, and noting the difficulty for younger generations to afford homes.

In his efforts, Suozzi mentioned that the party is in the process of recruiting 200 state and local officials to strengthen their position.
