On Saturday, August 2nd, 2026, four people were rescued in three separate incidents across Tasmania, Australia.

A man and a woman from southern Tasmania were helped to safety after their four-wheel drive became stuck on a remote track south of Queenstown on the state's west coast. Tasmania Police reported that the pair had been driving for several hours, became disoriented, and were stuck on a difficult section of the track they could not pass. One of the individuals reportedly had a physical disability, preventing them from walking without assistance. Police from Queenstown and Rosebery located them around 7:45 pm after setting out at approximately 5:30 pm. There were no injuries, and the vehicle was recovered and driven back to Queenstown.

In addition, two bushwalkers required assistance. A 44-year-old northern Tasmanian man spent about five hours lost in the Meander Falls area after becoming separated from his walking companion and veering off the track back to the car park. Tasmania Police Search and Rescue officers, supported by State Emergency Service personnel and drone technology, located him safely around midnight.

Earlier in the day, a Queensland woman in her mid-50s was winched to safety by helicopter after becoming unable to walk out following a solo bushwalk to Mount Killiecrankie on Flinders Island. She contacted police using her mobile phone late in the afternoon.

Tasmania Police reminded bushwalkers and motorists of the need to be prepared for trips into the Tasmanian bush and to always carry appropriate safety equipment.
