The federal judge who blocked the Trump administration from ending protections for Somalis under Temporary Protected Status (TPS) is now facing a fresh impeachment threat from allies of former President Donald Trump in Congress.

Rep. Andy Ogles (R-Tenn.) filed an impeachment resolution against Judge Allison Burroughs, a federal judge appointed during the Obama administration. Burroughs issued a stay on Friday, temporarily blocking the Trump administration from terminating TPS for Somalis, according to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). This action comes amid an ongoing lawsuit by African Communities Together, which argues that the administration's move was racially discriminatory.

Ogles' resolution, first obtained by Fox News Digital, accuses Burroughs of having "defied the authority of both Federal law and the Supreme Court." DHS General Counsel James Percival echoed this sentiment on social media, stating, "There is no serious debate about what is going on in these cases—defiance, obstruction, and delay."

This development follows a previous unsuccessful effort to impeach U.S. federal judge James Boasberg last year, which senior House Republicans opposed as an ineffective means to address what they termed "rogue" judges. However, Fox News Digital reported earlier in 2026 that conservatives planned to renew their campaign to remove judges they describe as activists from the bench.

President Donald Trump has been actively involved in immigration policy debates, including efforts to terminate temporary protections for certain migrant groups.
