Republican Ohio Representative Max Miller is confronting public allegations of abuse made by his ex-wife, Emily Moreno, daughter of Republican Ohio Senator Bernie Moreno. The couple shares a daughter and has been involved in a contentious divorce and custody battle.

The dispute intensified over the weekend when Miller addressed the accusations in a livestream titled “Special Announcement,” during which he denied the claims of abuse. Following the livestream, Miller posted a Dropbox link containing records he said supported his defense.

Senator Bernie Moreno publicly called for Miller's resignation, stating on X that “He should not serve in the House of Representatives” and that Miller "needs to seek professional help to end the clear pattern of abuse he has left in his wake.” Miller responded on X, asserting, “If my daughter said the same thing to me, I personally wouldn’t wait two years before holding him accountable. You know this isn’t true and the only reason you are speaking out now is to hide from your own media circus.”

The House Ethics Committee has declined to confirm whether it will investigate Miller regarding the domestic violence allegations. Meanwhile, a looming August 5 deadline could determine if Ohio Republicans are able to replace Miller on the November ballot.

Former President Donald Trump commented on the situation during an executive order signing in the Oval Office, describing it as “very sad” but declined to take sides.

The controversy adds to challenges faced by the GOP, including other members like Chuck Edwards who are dealing with personal or misconduct allegations ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.
