Ronald Exantus was released from the Kentucky Department of Corrections custody on July 29, 2026, after serving 11 years, nine months, and eighteen days for assaulting the father and sisters of 6-year-old Logan Tipton during a 2015 home invasion that left the child fatally stabbed while he slept.

The case shocked Kentucky after prosecutors reported that Exantus broke into the Tipton family home on December 7, 2015, and killed Logan Tipton. Despite reforms under Logan's Law, Exantus was freed upon completing his sentence.

The father of Logan Tipton criticized the outcome, stating that the man found not guilty by reason of dispute in the killing received "a slap on the wrist" after his release. Family members and advocates expressed frustration, highlighting what they see as failures in the justice system.

In November 2025, Kentucky Attorney General Russell Coleman urged the Kentucky Parole Board to revoke Exantus' mandatory reentry supervision after violations in Florida, recommending he serve the remainder of his sentence in prison. Ahead of Exantus's release, the Kentucky Justice and Public Safety Cabinet notified the trial judge, Commonwealth Attorney Kelli Kearney, and defense counsel that involuntary hospitalization proceedings could be pursued if deemed appropriate under state law.

Concerns have been raised about Kentucky's criminal justice system, with Fister noting that delays in implementing provisions of House Bill 5 have allowed some violent offenders to become eligible for parole earlier than lawmakers intended.

Calling Logan's Law "a great first step," Roberts announced plans to introduce further legislation to expand life without parole options for murder convictions, enhance victim notification requirements, and strengthen protections against violent offenders.

Exantus has served the sentence issued by the Woodford Circuit Court and is no longer in the custody of the Department of Corrections.
