In the lead-up to the pivotal Ohio Senate race this November, Republican incumbent Jon Husted sharply criticized his Democratic opponent, former Senator Sherrod Brown, for his long tenure in Washington.

Speaking at the annual Summer Farm Fest in Marysville, Ohio, Husted asserted, “He’s spent 32 years in Washington and he's got nothing to show for it, the voters over here in Ohio know it.” He described Brown as "just been a creature of Washington" and suggested Ohio voters are tired of such representation.

Brown, who served nearly two decades in the Senate after years in the House of Representatives, was defeated in 2024 by Republican Bernie Moreno in one of the most expensive campaigns in U.S. history.

Husted, appointed to the Senate in January 2025 following Vice President JD Vance's departure, pushed back on claims made in campaign ads. He emphasized his legislative efforts, including a bill requiring data centers to generate their own power and contribute benefits to local communities — efforts he contrasted with Brown’s record.

He further blamed Brown and the climate change agenda for shutting down 23 power plants in Ohio, which Husted said led to increased electricity prices. "If we had those 23 power plants today, we wouldn't have high energy prices," he added.

Husted also criticized Brown’s stance on immigration and sanctuary cities, linking them to increased crime and drug trafficking in Ohio.

"Just showing the contrast between 32 years of failure from Sherrod Brown and the fact that I'm an Ohio guy, I've fought for Ohioans, I've helped in state government to turn this state in the right direction," Husted concluded.

The Ohio Senate race is viewed as a key contest that could influence the balance of power in the U.S. Senate.
