On Wednesday, August 5th, 2026, violence in southern Lebanon resulted in the deaths of at least one Lebanese civilian and two Israeli soldiers amid ongoing ceasefire negotiations between Lebanon and Israel.

An Israeli air strike targeted the southern Lebanese town of Tibnin, hitting the roof of a cemetery prayer hall. According to Lebanon’s Health Ministry, this strike killed one person and injured 12 others.

Earlier, two Israeli soldiers were killed, another critically wounded, and several others injured when an improvised device detonated inside a booby-trapped building in the southern Lebanese village of Majdal Selem.

Following this explosion, the Israeli military announced via Telegram that it had launched "precise strikes" across southern Lebanon, citing the attacks as a response to a "blatant violation of the ceasefire by the Hezbollah terrorist organisation."

Despite these intermittent Israeli air strikes mainly targeting villages along the front line, Lebanese and Israeli diplomats and military officials continue negotiations aimed at implementing the ceasefire framework.

Since March 2nd, 2026, Israeli attacks have reportedly killed at least 4,333 people and wounded 12,250 others in Lebanon, according to Lebanon’s Health Ministry.
