Seven-time Grand Slam winner Carlos Alcaraz has withdrawn from the ATP Masters 1000 Cincinnati Open, scheduled for August 13-23, due to a wrist injury, organizers confirmed on August 5, 2026. This development casts uncertainty over the Spaniard's fitness ahead of his US Open title defence later this month.

Alcaraz, who has been sidelined since withdrawing in the second round of the Barcelona Open in April, was expected to return to competition in Cincinnati, a tournament he won last year after world number one Jannik Sinner retired from the final. He then carried that momentum to Flushing Meadows, securing his second US Open crown following his 2022 triumph.

The 23-year-old missed the French Open and Wimbledon as he continued his recovery but had recently posted videos signaling he was close to returning to training. Cincinnati tournament director Bob Moran stated, "We know Carlos is doing everything he can to get back to playing tournaments as soon as possible."

The Winston-Salem Open, beginning August 23, remains a potential opportunity for Alcaraz to gain match practice before the US Open, though he has not yet confirmed participation in the ATP 250 event.
