Incumbent GOP Rep. Bill Huizenga of Michigan’s 4th congressional district is projected to have won the Tuesday, August 4th, 2026 Republican primary, defeating former Holland mayor and city council member Philip Tanis. Huizenga will face Democratic state Sen. Sean McCann in the November general election, after McCann defeated Diop Harris, a former Senate aide, in the Democratic primary.

The race is considered competitive, with Democrats aiming to flip the seat. The Cook Political Report rates the district as leaning Republican, but the House Democrats’ campaign arm has listed it as a top target for November.

Huizenga enters the general election with nearly $2.3 million on hand, according to a Federal Elections Commission filing on July 15th. McCann’s most recent financial report shows about $1.7 million available.

Local media reported that former President Donald Trump encouraged Huizenga to seek reelection to the House rather than pursue a Senate run, describing him as a “Tremendous Champion” and a “Highly Effective Representative.”
