Brandon Aiyuk’s status with the San Francisco 49ers remains unresolved as the team opened its training camp on August 5, 2026. The wide receiver continues to be listed on the reserve/left squad list, a position he has held since the end of 2025. After missing the entire previous season due to a prolonged standoff with the 49ers, Aiyuk would likely need to apply to the NFL for reinstatement to resume his career.
The dispute between Aiyuk and the 49ers escalated last July when the team voided the remaining guaranteed money in his contract after he failed to participate in rehabilitation for a torn ACL, MCL, and meniscus in his right knee. The next steps for Aiyuk could involve reporting to training camp or notifying the team of his intention to do so.
Former Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Roddy White criticized the 49ers’ approach, stating, "I think this situation has been handled wrongly by the 49ers." Meanwhile, 49ers general manager John Lynch emphasized the team's focus on players currently in camp. White also expressed well wishes for Aiyuk and his family.
Ricky Pearsall, another 49ers wide receiver, entered camp as a potential breakout player after being limited to 20 games over his first two seasons due to injuries.
Aiyuk and teammate Daniels were college teammates at Arizona State in 2019. The uncertainty surrounding Aiyuk’s future with the 49ers persists as the NFL training camp progresses.
