A Singapore court has sentenced a Hong Kong mother and her adult son following a violent incident at Changi Airport's Terminal 3 on the afternoon of June 30, 2024. Chan Sui-kwan, 65, was reportedly given six months' imprisonment for voluntarily causing hurt to deter a public servant from carrying out his duties. Her son, Chan Wing-kwan, 42, received a 10-day jail term for voluntarily causing hurt.

Court documents state that the son became agitated after mistakenly believing bystanders were mocking him, which led him to kick his mother. When a 69-year-old bystander intervened to check on the woman, she told him to leave, while her son aggressively challenged the bystander to a fight. The situation escalated on another floor of the terminal, where the son kicked his mother again. When the bystander tried to call the police, the son rushed towards him. The pair also attacked a police officer, with the son biting the officer on the arm.

The incident and subsequent sentencing highlight the serious consequences of the violent clash at one of Asia's busiest airports.
