Japan's Suzuki Motor has become the first automaker to introduce a mass-market flex-fuel vehicle in India, marking a significant step in the country's efforts to reduce dependence on crude oil imports. The Indian government, led by Prime Minister Modi, is actively promoting the use of ethanol blends as an alternative energy source.

At the debut event for Maruti Suzuki's Wagon R, India's Minister of Roads Nitin Gadkari and Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri highlighted the government's commitment to supporting biofuels. This initiative aligns with India's broader strategy to cut reliance on oil imports from the Middle East.

Following Suzuki's lead, other manufacturers are expected to enter the flex-fuel market as the government continues to back biofuel adoption.
