President Donald Trump sharply criticized Michigan Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed during a campaign-style event in Las Vegas on Wednesday, August 5, 2026. Trump claimed the polls were wrong in predicting a landslide victory for El-Sayed, whom he described as a "hater of Jews and a hater of Israel."

"This guy hates Jews," Trump said, responding to a comment that his language was too strong. "No, he hates Jews and hates Israel."

Trump called El-Sayed "a man of hate" and questioned his professed love for everyone, warning voters that "Put him in office, and you’re going to find out what he loves."

He further asserted that El-Sayed hates Jewish people and Israel "with a burning passion in his heart," adding, "There’s not a frickin’ thing he can do about it."

These remarks came hours after El-Sayed narrowly defeated a Republican opponent in the Michigan Senate primary.

In response, El-Sayed emphasized his dedication to Jewish safety during an interview on MS NOW the same day. "My commitment to Jewish safety is the same as my commitment to the safety of my own kids," he said. "We have a responsibility to take on antisemitism in all of its forms, wherever we see it."

The Las Vegas event where Trump spoke was focused on promoting the "no tax on tips" provision of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act.
