This move is part of Trump’s $10 billion lawsuit against the British broadcaster, which he claims suffered financial harm due to a 2024 BBC documentary about the January 6, 2021, Capitol attack.

In July, a Miami-based judge ruled that Trump must begin handing over comprehensive financial documents by August 6, revealing information about hundreds of businesses owned by the president’s family trust. On August 5, Trump’s attorneys asked the court to temporarily pause enforcement of this order, arguing that the BBC’s demands were excessively broad and politically motivated. They also requested an amendment to the lawsuit to focus on "reputation harm" caused by the documentary, aiming to keep disclosures proportional to the case’s needs.

While Trump’s exact net worth remains unclear, recent financial disclosures indicate he earned over $2.2 billion during his first year back in office. Separately, Trump’s legal team pushed for a trial in a $10 billion defamation suit against the Wall Street Journal, which reported on a "bawdy" letter Trump allegedly included in a birthday book for disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein in 2003.

Additionally, Trump’s Justice Department issued and then withdrew subpoenas to New York Times journalists following reports on security concerns related to the Air Force One presidential jet.
