French television giant Canal+, headquartered in Issy-les-Moulineaux, France, has acquired exclusive rights to broadcast the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) Men’s Club competitions across Sub-Saharan Africa. Starting in mid-2027, Canal+ will air the biggest UEFA matches, including the highly popular Champions League, to subscribers in more than 40 countries in the region until 2031.

In French-speaking African countries, Canal+ Sport will regain full coverage of the Champions League and, for the first time, add the Europa and Conference Leagues to its offerings. Canal+ will also maintain exclusive rights in English- and Portuguese-speaking African countries, with broadcaster SuperSport continuing to carry the competitions.

This broadcasting deal follows Canal+'s recent expansion on the continent, notably after acquiring the English-language South Africa-based MultiChoice last year. Media analysts highlight that live sports remain a key factor in consumers accepting price increases for satellite television services.
