French television giant Canal+ has acquired exclusive rights to broadcast the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) Men’s Club competitions across Sub-Saharan Africa in all languages. Starting in mid-2027 and continuing until 2031, Canal+ will deliver the biggest UEFA matches to subscribers in more than 40 countries in the region.

This broadcasting deal includes the Champions League, the most-watched football competition in Africa. In French-speaking African countries, Canal+ Sport will regain full coverage of the Champions League and, for the first time, add the Europa League and Conference League to its programming.

Canal+ will also maintain exclusive rights in English- and Portuguese-speaking African countries, with its broadcaster SuperSport continuing to carry the competitions. This agreement follows Canal+’s recent expansion on the continent, notably after acquiring the English-language South Africa-based MultiChoice last year.

Media analysts note that live sports remain the most compelling reason for households to accept price increases for satellite television services.

The Canal+ headquarters is located in Issy-les-Moulineaux, France.
