French television giant Canal+ has acquired exclusive broadcasting rights for the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) Men’s Club competitions across Sub-Saharan Africa. Starting in mid-2027 and continuing through 2031, Canal+ will broadcast the biggest UEFA matches to subscribers in more than 40 countries in the region.

This deal includes the Champions League, the most-watched football competition in Africa. In French-speaking African countries, Canal+ Sport will provide full coverage of the Champions League and, for the first time, add the Europa and Conference leagues. Canal+ will also maintain exclusive rights in English- and Portuguese-speaking African countries, with its broadcaster SuperSport continuing to carry these competitions.

The agreement follows Canal+'s recent expansion in Africa, including the acquisition of the English-language South Africa-based MultiChoice last year. Media analysts note that live sports remain a key factor in consumers accepting price increases for satellite television services.

Canal+ is headquartered in Issy-les-Moulineaux, France.
