Canal+, the French television giant headquartered in Issy-les-Moulineaux, France, has acquired exclusive broadcasting rights for the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) Men’s Club competitions across Sub-Saharan Africa. Starting in mid-2027 and continuing through 2031, Canal+ will broadcast the biggest UEFA matches to subscribers in more than 40 countries in the region.

This deal includes the Champions League, the most-watched football competition in Africa. In French-speaking Africa, Canal+ Sport will regain full coverage of the Champions League and, for the first time, add the Europa and Conference Leagues to its programming. Canal+ will also maintain exclusive rights in English- and Portuguese-speaking African countries, with its broadcaster SuperSport continuing to carry the competitions.

The agreement follows Canal+’s ongoing expansion in Africa, notably after acquiring the English-language South Africa-based MultiChoice last year. Media analysts note that live sports remain a key factor in consumers accepting price increases for satellite television services.
