French television giant Canal+ has acquired exclusive broadcasting rights for the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) Men’s Club competitions across Sub-Saharan Africa. Beginning in mid-2027, Canal+ will broadcast the biggest UEFA matches to subscribers in more than 40 countries in the region, with the deal extending through 2031.

This agreement includes coverage of the continent’s most-watched competition, the UEFA Champions League. In French-speaking African countries, Canal+ Sport will regain full coverage of the Champions League and, for the first time, add the Europa League and Conference League to its offerings. Canal+ will also maintain exclusive rights in English- and Portuguese-speaking African countries, where its broadcaster SuperSport will continue to carry the competitions.

The deal follows Canal+’s recent expansion in Africa, notably after acquiring the English-language South Africa-based MultiChoice last year. Media analysts note that live sports remain a key factor in consumers accepting price increases for satellite television services.

Canal+ is headquartered in Issy-les-Moulineaux, France.
