French television giant Canal+ has acquired exclusive rights to broadcast the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) Men’s Club competitions across Sub-Saharan Africa in all languages. Starting in mid-2027, Canal+ will deliver the biggest UEFA matches, including the highly popular Champions League, to subscribers in more than 40 countries until 2031.

In French-speaking Africa, Canal+ Sport will regain full coverage of the Champions League and, for the first time, add the Europa and Conference leagues. Canal+ will also maintain exclusive rights in English- and Portuguese-speaking African countries, with its broadcaster SuperSport continuing to carry these competitions.

This deal follows Canal+’s ongoing expansion in Africa, notably after acquiring the English-language South Africa-based MultiChoice last year. Media analysts note that live sports remain a key factor in consumer willingness to accept satellite TV price increases.

The announcement was made from Canal+ headquarters in Issy-les-Moulineaux, France.
