Canal+, the French television giant headquartered in Issy-les-Moulineaux, France, has acquired exclusive broadcasting rights for the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) Men’s Club competitions in Sub-Saharan Africa. The deal covers all languages and will begin in mid-2027, running through 2031.

The coverage includes the UEFA Champions League, the most-watched football competition in Africa. In French-speaking African countries, Canal+ Sport will regain full coverage of the Champions League and will, for the first time, broadcast the Europa and Conference Leagues. Canal+ will also maintain exclusive rights in English- and Portuguese-speaking African countries, with its broadcaster SuperSport continuing to carry these competitions.

This acquisition follows Canal+’s recent expansion in Africa, notably after acquiring the English-language South Africa-based MultiChoice last year. Media analysts note that live sports remain a key driver for households to accept price increases in satellite television services.
