Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto’s approval rating has fallen sharply, according to a new survey conducted by Saiful Mujani Research and Consulting (SMRC). The poll, which surveyed 749 respondents from July 5 to 19, 2026, showed his approval rating at 51.1%, down from 81.2% in November 2025 and 66.4% in March 2026. Meanwhile, dissatisfaction with his performance increased from 16% in November to nearly 47% in July.

Analysts attribute this decline to a disconnect between Indonesia’s still-respectable headline economic growth and the everyday economic experiences of voters. Concerns over rising prices, job security, and purchasing power have fueled skepticism about Prabowo’s ambitious welfare and village-economy agenda.

“This decline in public satisfaction levels is closely related to the decline in positive sentiment towards economic, political and law enforcement conditions,” said Deni Irvani, executive director at SMRC, during the survey release on July 29, 2026.

Prabowo, who took office in October 2024, had promised faster economic growth, stronger sovereignty, and major social programs in Southeast Asia’s largest economy. However, if a presidential election were held today, the survey suggests he would trail West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi, with only 14.5% of respondents supporting Prabowo compared to 35% for Dedi.

The survey highlights the challenges facing Prabowo as he seeks to maintain public support amid economic anxieties and policy concerns.
