The Confederation of African Football (CAF) Executive Committee has unanimously confirmed its support for FIFA President Gianni Infantino, despite opposition from counterparts in Europe, North America, and Asia. This decision came on Thursday, August 7th, 2026, the same day UEFA announced its commitment to boycotting future World Cups at all levels while Infantino remains in office.

CAF President Patrice Motsepe expressed gratitude for Infantino's support of African football over the years and endorsed the “Joint Update” issued by FIFA President Gianni Infantino and Secretary General Mattias Grafstrom. Motsepe emphasized the importance of good governance and transparency in global football.

The CAF Executive Committee’s backing contrasts with UEFA’s stance amid ongoing controversies surrounding Infantino’s administration and the recent World Cup sell-off issues. Infantino is seeking re-election as FIFA president in March 2027.
