The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has unanimously reaffirmed its support for FIFA President Gianni Infantino, highlighting his longstanding backing of African football. This endorsement comes amid contrasting stances from football bodies in Europe, North America, and Asia.
On Thursday, the CAF Executive Committee expressed gratitude for Infantino's support over the years and welcomed the "Joint Update" issued by Infantino and FIFA Secretary General Mattias Grafstrom. CAF President Patrice Motsepe emphasized the importance of good governance and transparency in global football during the announcement.
This show of support coincided with UEFA's declaration to boycott future World Cups at all levels while Infantino remains in office. Infantino is seeking re-election as FIFA president in March 2027.
Motsepe had also praised Infantino days before controversy emerged surrounding the World Cup sell-off.
