Dozens of students and job aspirants have been protesting since July 25, 2026, at a stadium in Ranchi, the capital of Jharkhand, demanding an overhaul of the state's government examination system. Some protesters have resorted to hunger strikes and sleeping outdoors to press their demands.

The movement is driven by frustration over the infrequency of government job examinations; it has been reported that since Jharkhand's creation in 2000, the examination has been advertised only three times despite hundreds of vacancies remaining unfilled. Among the protesters is a 27-year-old woman from a farming family in Bokaro who has spent years preparing for the civil service exam, expressing determination: "We will not leave until we get it, even if it costs us our lives."

Deepika Pandey Singh, a minister in the Jharkhand government, told the BBC that investigations into the allegations of irregularities had begun even before the current protests started. While many protesters insist their movement remains independent and are wary of political claims, the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), the youth movement behind recent demonstrations in Delhi, has announced its support for the Jharkhand protests.

Protesters welcome political support but emphasize the movement's autonomy. The ongoing agitation highlights widespread youth frustration over job security and recruitment processes in the state.
