On Saturday, August 8th, 2026, a federal appeals court ordered a halt to the $400 million White House ballroom construction project planned under US President Donald Trump’s administration. The court ruled that the project had not received approval from Congress, making the construction unauthorized.

This ruling came after the National Trust for Historic Preservation challenged the project and sought an injunction last year. A three-judge panel upheld the injunction in a 2-to-1 decision.

President Trump has vowed to appeal the ruling to the Supreme Court.
