On Friday, August 7th, 2026, President Donald Trump publicly urged Congress to pass the "Protect College Sports Act," warning that women's and Olympic sports could disappear without it. Writing on Truth Social, Trump described the bill as "a great Bill," expressing hope that the Senate would remain in Washington, D.C. until its passage.

Trump emphasized his record on protecting women athletes, stating, "Nobody has done more to protect Women Athletes than me — and this Bill CLEARLY protects the Laws in 27 States protecting Women's Sports, and banning Men from Women's Sports."

He further warned of the consequences if the bill does not pass: "Without this Bill, millions of young Athletes will be hurt, programs will be canceled, Women's and Olympic Sports will go away, the fans will be robbed, and Universities will go broke."

The president urged bipartisan cooperation, saying, "I’m urging the House and the Senate to come together, bipartisan if possible, and it looks like they have done, to send the bill to my desk and I will sign it. I think we have no choice."

Trump also addressed critics, stating, "Anyone who tells you differently is LYING! Stop grandstanding, and try getting this done. Thank you for your attention to this matter!"

These comments came a day after Trump made similar remarks while welcoming U.S. Olympians to the White House Rose Garden.

Additionally, the White House released an official memo clarifying that the Protect College Sports Act would not override state laws that prevent biological men from competing in women's sports, affirming that states retain the authority to legislate on this issue.

The bill is currently navigating Congress, and if it passes both houses, it will be sent to President Trump's desk for signature.
