On Friday, August 7th, 2026, President Donald Trump urged Congress via Truth Social to pass the Protect College Sports Act, warning that without it, women's and Olympic sports could disappear. He described the bill as "a great Bill" and expressed hope that the Senate would remain in Washington, D.C. until its passage.

Trump emphasized his record on protecting women athletes, stating, "Nobody has done more to protect Women Athletes than me — and this Bill CLEARLY protects the Laws in 27 States protecting Women's Sports, and banning Men from Women's Sports."

He also warned of the consequences if the bill fails, saying, "Without this Bill, millions of young Athletes will be hurt, programs will be canceled, Women's and Olympic Sports will go away, the fans will be robbed, and Universities will go broke."

The president called for bipartisan cooperation, urging, "I’m urging the House and the Senate to come together, bipartisan if possible, and it looks like they have done, to send the bill to my desk and I will sign it. I think we have no choice."

These remarks followed similar comments made by Trump the previous day while welcoming U.S. Olympians to the White House Rose Garden.

Additionally, the White House released an official memo on Friday clarifying that the Protect College Sports Act would not override existing state laws that prevent biological men from competing in women's sports, affirming that states retain the authority to legislate on this issue.

Education Secretary Linda McMahon also highlighted the Supreme Court's ruling upholding transgender sports bans, underscoring the need to protect women's sports and addressing concerns about fairness, lost opportunities, and safety for female athletes.

The Protect College Sports Act is currently progressing through Congress. If it clears both the House and Senate, it will be sent to President Trump's desk for signature.
