On Friday, August 7th, 2026, former President Donald Trump publicly urged Congress to pass the "Protect College Sports Act," emphasizing its importance for the future of women's and Olympic sports. Writing on Truth Social, Trump described the bill as "a great Bill," expressing hope that the Senate would remain in Washington, D.C. until its passage.

Trump warned that without the legislation, "millions of young Athletes will be hurt, programs will be canceled, Women's and Olympic Sports will go away, the fans will be robbed, and Universities will go broke." He asserted, "Nobody has done more to protect Women Athletes than me — and this Bill CLEARLY protects the Laws in 27 States protecting Women's Sports, and banning Men from Women's Sports."

He further urged lawmakers, "Anyone who tells you differently is LYING! Stop grandstanding, and try getting this done. Thank you for your attention to this matter!" and stressed the urgency: "We have to get that done. If we don’t, we’re very foolish. Nobody knows what will happen. We’re in Never-Never Land. We’re not going to let that be happening. We’re not going to let that happen to these great people and others."

These remarks came a day after Trump made similar comments while welcoming U.S. Olympians to the White House Rose Garden.

Meanwhile, the White House released an official memo clarifying that the Protect College Sports Act would not override existing state laws that prevent biological men from competing in women's sports, affirming that states retain the authority to legislate on this issue.

The bill is currently progressing through Congress. If it clears both the House and Senate, it will be sent to President Trump's desk for signature. Education Secretary Linda McMahon has also highlighted the Supreme Court's ruling upholding transgender sports bans, emphasizing the need to protect women's sports and criticizing Democrats for dismissing these concerns.
