Two U.S. district judges have rejected cases defending the Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for migrants from South Sudan and Myanmar, putting some individuals at risk of deportation. Following these rulings, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) issued alerts confirming that TPS designation for both countries was halted effective Friday, August 7, 2026.

TPS is a temporary immigration status granted to nationals of certain countries experiencing ongoing armed conflict, environmental disaster, or other extraordinary conditions. The termination of TPS for Myanmar and South Sudan means that migrants from these countries no longer have this protection under U.S. immigration law.

The DHS notices on their website mark the official end of TPS for these groups, following the judicial decisions.
