Fox News reports that the Freedom 250 fireworks display, held on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. on July 4, 2026, has been officially confirmed by Guinness World Records as the largest fireworks show in history. The event featured 840,537 fireworks, surpassing the previous record of 810,904 set by a megachurch's 2016 New Year's Eve show.

The display was organized by Freedom 250 and Pyrotecnico, Inc., with Event Strategies Inc coordinating the event. Despite weather delays that required evacuation of revelers from the National Mall, hundreds of thousands witnessed the fireworks, which lasted about 40 minutes and were launched from multiple sites due to the show's immense scale.

President Donald Trump, who proclaimed the event as the "LARGEST FIREWORKS SHOW IN HISTORY," estimated in his speech that the crowd size on the National Mall was reduced from 350,000 to 150,000 due to weather conditions. The celebration also included President Trump's speeches at national landmarks, a gathering of military veterans including a 103-year-old World War II veteran, and an international naval review in New York Harbor.

The White House stated, according to The Washington Post, that "No other president in history could have accomplished the incredible feat that President Trump did at our Nation’s historic 250th birthday celebration, which included an incredible air show, a record-breaking fireworks display, and an inspiring speech delivered before hundreds of thousands of American patriots."

Interior Secretary Doug Burgum had explained in June that the fireworks would be launched from several sites to accommodate the scale of the event. The fireworks illuminated the National Mall, the Potomac River, and surrounding areas in a spectacular display marking America's 250th anniversary.
