Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has formally rejected US President Donald Trump’s 15-point plan for Gaza, declaring that Israel’s military will not withdraw until Hamas is "genuinely" disarmed.

Trump’s Board of Peace announced last month an agreement aimed at the "complete disarmament" of Hamas and other armed groups in Gaza. However, Hamas has stated that surrendering its heavy weapons depends on Israel ending "all forms of aggression" and withdrawing its forces from the territory.

At a cabinet meeting on Sunday, August 9th 2026, Netanyahu said, "Israel rejects the 15-point document," underscoring Israel’s stance against the proposed plan.

A senior official from the Board of Peace told Israel’s Channel 12 that Israel had been asked "to give the process a chance," describing the US-backed peace plan as "the only way forward" to prevent a repeat of the October 7th, 2023 Hamas attack.

The conflict has had devastating humanitarian consequences. According to the United Nations, approximately 1.9 million people—90% of Gaza’s population—have been displaced since the war began. The territory’s health ministry reports over 73,000 deaths resulting from Israel’s military campaign, figures considered reliable by the UN.

Israel has continued military strikes in Gaza despite an initial ceasefire agreed upon last October.
