Erik Santana-Garcia, a 34-year-old Mexican national from Salt Lake City, Utah, was sentenced on July 30, 2026, to 20 years in federal prison without parole, followed by lifetime supervised release. He was convicted of interstate transportation of a minor with intent to engage in illegal sexual activity, possession of child pornography, and illegally reentering the United States after prior deportations.

Prosecutors stated that Santana-Garcia transported a minor across state lines intending to engage in illegal sexual activity. He had been deported multiple times before, most recently on March 6, 2019.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) confirmed that Santana-Garcia was apprehended through coordinated efforts involving ICE HSI Kansas City, ICE HSI Salt Lake City, ICE HSI Billings, and local police in Oak Grove, Missouri. ICE announced plans to deport him back to Mexico after he completes his prison term.
