A Florida man, Gavin Ames, was arrested on August 11, 2026, after a deputy from the DeSoto County Sheriff's Office clocked him driving at 110 mph in a 60 mph zone. Ames told the deputy he was speeding to catch his girlfriend cheating.

When questioned, Ames did not dispute his speed or attempt to excuse it. Instead, he explained, "I'm actually on my way to my cheating girlfriend's house." Video footage shows Ames in the back of the patrol car saying, "I’m in the back of a cop car listening to Boss Man D-Lo at one o’clock in the morning to catch my cheating girlfriend."

Florida's "super speeder" law led to Ames being handcuffed and taken into custody. Despite his claim, a deputy intervened to prevent him from confronting his girlfriend. Ames also remarked, "Now, I’m going to get bailed out by her."

There are reports of a related incident involving a Florida man in a bunny helmet allegedly leading police on a 120 mph chase before surrendering, though it is unclear if this is the same individual.
