A Texas man, identified as Joseph Roy Ozment, was arrested and charged with a third-degree felony for making a terroristic threat against a public servant. The charge carries a potential penalty of up to 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine, according to Travis County court records.

The arrest followed an expletive-filled voicemail rant Ozment left, expressing frustration over age verification laws that prevented him from accessing anime content. In the voicemail, Ozment said, "I don't know which one of you sons of bitches passed this motherfucking bill to get this damn shit blocking my motherfucking anime, but you whole ass motherfuckers need to unpass this shit." He also claimed, "My Google account says I'm fucking over the age of 18, and your dumbass is passing these dumbass laws."

Ozment's demand to "Unlock my fucking anime" was directed at authorities, and the transcript of his voicemail was provided to KXAN by the Texas Department of Public Safety. While Ozment's statements included a threat—"I'm a fucking stab every goddamn one of you bitches. Unlock my fucking anime."—it remains unclear whether this constitutes a true threat under the law, which is not protected by the First Amendment, as noted by law professor Kevin Francis O'Neill.

The specific age verification law Ozment referred to has not been clearly identified, but his frustration echoes similar concerns raised by Texas Governor Greg Abbott, who on July 25 expressed displeasure over being blocked from viewing anime.
