Democratic strategist James Carville recently warned that the far-left wing is dragging the Democratic Party down, citing progressive Michigan Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed's primary win with 51% of the vote. Carville emphasized that mainstream Democrats must push back against major socialist rhetoric to win elections.

The controversy centers on Twitch streamer Hasan Piker, who has previously claimed America "deserved 9/11," and who recently praised an aide to New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani. This aide, Cea Weaver, was quoted by liberal comic Bill Maher as saying, “if you don't believe in the government's sacred right to seize property, it's over,” and expressing hope to “impoverish the White middle-class.” Maher shared these remarks last week before Piker interrupted the clip, calling Weaver "beast mode."

Piker was in the midst of mocking Maher's incredulity at various socialist platforms on his "Real Time" program when he responded to Maher's criticism of Weaver. Piker also disputed Maher's suggestion that the China of Mao Zedong and Deng Xiaoping had "fallen," noting that Mao died in 1976 and Deng emerged as China's paramount leader, overseeing reforms through 1990 before his death in 1997.

Additionally, Piker criticized Maher's mention of the USSR as a "bastardization" of his quote. Notably, former Soviet KGB agent Vladimir Putin called the 1991 collapse of the USSR the "greatest geopolitical catastrophe" in history.

Meanwhile, Piker is facing renewed scrutiny after viewers spotted a framed newspaper front page from September in his background.

One commentator noted, "One of the things I love about Zohran is that the people surrounding him are oftentimes so much cooler than he is — but that's also part of the reason why I really respect what he's doing; she's awesome."
