Michael Alfonso, a 26-year-old political newcomer and son-in-law of Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, was projected to win the GOP primary for the open congressional seat in Wisconsin’s 7th Congressional District, according to Decision Desk HQ.

Alfonso's campaign emphasized affordability and personal freedoms, advocating for a new generation of Republican leaders. He told NewsNation’s “Morning in America” on Monday, “We need to have young Republicans who can actually go out and message to these young people and talk about the issues they care about — affordability, owning homes, raising families. That’s what I’m doing.”

Tom Tiffany (R-Wis.), who succeeded Duffy in 2020, chose not to run for another term and is instead running for governor.

Alfonso received strong support from President Trump and his father-in-law, Sean Duffy, who represented the district for nearly a decade. Trump endorsed Alfonso on May 8 via Truth Social, calling him a "MAGA Warrior" and praising both Alfonso and Rachel Campos-Duffy, a Fox News anchor and Alfonso’s mother-in-law.

Duffy defended Alfonso against criticism regarding familial ties and highlighted Alfonso’s experience working in construction within the district. He told NewsNation, “I think it’d be great to have someone who knows how to put on a pair of jeans and a pair of boots and a hard hat and work his butt off 12 hours a day. That’s what he’ll do when he goes to Washington, the same thing he’s done here.”
