On Thursday, August 13, 2026, Bangladesh's depleted pace attack made a significant impact in the first test against Australia in Darwin, reducing the hosts to 183 for eight at tea on day one of the series-opening match.

Australia captain Pat Cummins won the toss and elected to bat first on a grassy pitch under hot conditions in the Northern Territory capital. However, Bangladesh's pacemen quickly dismantled Australia's batting lineup.

Hasan Mahmud removed both Australian openers, including Jake Weatherald, who was caught in the slips for 23 with a loose drive. Mahmud also dismissed tailenders Pat Cummins (9) and Mitchell Starc (1) in quick succession before the tea break.

Seamer Ebadot Hossain took the wicket of wicketkeeper Alex Carey, who was out for 19 after chopping onto his stumps, ending a 55-run partnership with Steve Smith. Smith scored a defiant half-century and was 67 not out at the end of the session.

Fast bowler Taskin Ahmed claimed his second wicket by bowling all-rounder Beau Webster for 12 with an excellent delivery. Cameron Green, batting at number five, was caught for 13 after hitting Taskin to short midwicket.

Number three Marnus Labuschagne was caught for one off Ebadot's bowling.

This test series marks Bangladesh's first in Australia since 2003. The second and final test of the series will be held in Mackay, Queensland.
