President Donald Trump's administration announced on Thursday, August 13, 2026, that it has achieved 15 consecutive months without a single release at the U.S. border. Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin's office reported that daily apprehensions at the border have dropped by 94% compared to the previous administration under President Joe Biden, reaching the lowest levels seen in 30 years.

"Again this month, the results are clear: President Trump’s border security agenda is restoring order and putting the safety of the American people first," Mullin said in a statement. He added, "DHS remains focused on enforcing our immigration laws, securing the border, and ensuring those who enter our country illegally are removed swiftly. Thanks to the strong leadership of President Trump, we have the most secure border in history."

Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Commissioner Rodney Scott also emphasized the effectiveness of current policies, stating, "Clear policy, strong enforcement, and dedicated frontline personnel are delivering results at our borders."

In addition to the drop in apprehensions, seizures of contraband at the border in July were reported to be 26% higher than during the Biden administration, with authorities confiscating cocaine, methamphetamine, heroin, fentanyl, and marijuana.

Photographs accompanying the report show Border Patrol agents working to seal an illegal cross-border tunnel discovered between El Paso and Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, and CBP recruiter Gabriel Montanez assisting applicants during a recruitment event in El Paso, Texas.

These developments come amid discussions of an immigration overhaul bill intended to codify President Trump's campaign promises on border security.
