Trump Media & Technology Group is generating controversy by selling faster access to President Donald Trump's posts on its social media platform, Truth Social, for fees ranging from $60,000 to $100,000 a month. CEO Kevin McGurn disclosed on Monday, August 12, 2026, that the company has signed up more than 10 customers for its Truth API, an Application Programming Interface data feed. Most customers are high-frequency securities trading firms aiming to gain a millisecond advantage by receiving the president's posts before the wider Truth Social audience.

McGurn also revealed that Trump Media is in active discussions with major cloud computing companies, artificial intelligence firms, and news organizations about subscribing to the Truth API. He expressed optimism about early demand and plans to expand the product to other sectors, including retail investors.

Despite the revenue growth—second-quarter revenue rose 89% to $1.67 million—the company reported a tenfold increase in losses to $238 million, largely due to declines in its cryptocurrency holdings.

Legal experts have raised concerns about the arrangement. Painter noted that although Trump's posts are publicly available when delivered via the API, both the source of government information and paying customers are legally required to delay trading on that information until it is reflected in market prices to avoid insider trading violations. Painter further argued that a broader law is necessary to prevent government officials from profiting off insider information, leaks, and disclosures, likening the need to the enactment of Regulation Fair Disclosure (Reg FD) in 2000, which addressed selective disclosure by public companies.

Critics have described the practice as "extraordinary, corrupt and unconstitutional," asserting there is no legitimate interest in allowing President Trump to profit from selling government information. They contend Trump is attempting to enrich himself by privatizing government data he has no right to sell.

In response to a lawsuit challenging the practice, Trump Media stated that Mr. Trump's statements are widely available. The White House has not yet commented on the litigation.
