At least 10 people have been killed following a second night of Russian strikes on Kyiv in a week, according to the capital's top military administrator, Timur Tkachenko. He also reported that 46 people were injured, including five children. Rescue efforts are ongoing at more than 20 locations, with residential high-rise buildings hit in two districts.
The attacks involved Russian ballistic missiles striking several buildings across Kyiv, causing fires in some apartment complexes. Warehouses and a garage workshop were also damaged, Mayor Vitaly Klitschko said.
These strikes occurred on the eve of the NATO summit in Turkey, where Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is expected to meet with President Trump. Hours before the attacks, Zelensky warned that Moscow was preparing a second "massive strike" on Kyiv following previous attacks on Thursday that killed 30 people. He stated that intelligence indicated Kyiv would face a second wave of Russian attacks within a week.
Following a barrage of drone and missile strikes on Thursday night, tens of thousands of residents evacuated to metro stations as alarms sounded across the city.
Russia claimed it targeted military and energy bases in retaliation for recent Ukrainian strikes on power stations and energy facilities within Russian territory.
A notable statement highlighted the urgency of defense support: "Any delay with missiles for our air defense... means the loss of lives, and it encourages Russia to continue the war."
